Cello Lessons

Specialized classical cello training

Individual cello instruction grounded in classical repertoire, from first lessons through advanced RCM study and orchestral preparation. Training joins secure technique, a cultivated tone and interpretive depth in a carefully planned course of repertoire.

Cellist Andrew Park teaches one to one in our studios. Students preparing for examinations and orchestral audition receive the same considered guidance as those pursuing the cello for lifelong enjoyment.

A secure technical foundation

Early study establishes a comfortable instrument set-up, a free and controlled bow arm, and dependable left-hand technique. Aural skills, rhythmic training and score study are introduced in a sequence suited to the individual student, allowing musicianship and technique to serve artistic intention from the beginning.

As repertoire grows, instruction addresses intonation, shifting, vibrato and the relationship between bow speed, weight and contact point that produces a full and relaxed tone. Advanced study brings these elements together in stylistically informed interpretation, chamber playing and orchestral preparation.

Andrew Park has performed across Canada, the United States, Mexico and Norway, joining two distinct strands of a performing career. As an orchestral and chamber musician, he has appeared with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Calgary Philharmonic; as an arranger and performer, he co-founded Strings From Paris in 2022, a string ensemble producing arrangements of contemporary popular and R&B repertoire for audiences exceeding fifteen thousand across North America.

He leads the cello department at the Oakville Suzuki Association and coaches with the Oakville Symphony Youth Orchestra, bringing a rare breadth of performing experience to instruction that keeps technical discipline and musical curiosity in close company.

Examinations and ensemble playing

For students following the RCM pathway, repertoire, technique, ear training and sight-reading are developed as a connected course of study. Required theory work can be coordinated with the academy's theory department.

Cellists are natural ensemble players. Chamber groups are formed by matching students of comparable standing — duos, trios and quartets — coached by faculty who play chamber music professionally. Examinations remain an option, not a prerequisite for serious study.
